The year’s largest PHP event, the Zend/PHP Conference, just wrapped up in San Francisco (Oct 8-11), with an attendance of more than 700 from around the globe.
Schematic presented four times, and we were referred to in several other presentations–we’ve really increased our mindshare in the PHP community.
One of the conference highlights was the presentation by Brian DeShong and Ben Ramsey on how we developed the Nokia MOSH project using PHP and the Zend Framework. The project is impressive enough that Andi Gutmans, co-founder of Zend, wishes to feature this project in Zend’s online case studies.
Ben also presented on Memcached, a way of caching data for greater performance and scalability, and Brian spoke on “The Grown-Up Company’s Guide to Development,” drawing on the tremendous improvements we’ve made in our development processes in the last year alone.
Additionally, Maggie Nelson gave a remote presentation (via video chat) detailing database best practices, as part of the less formal “Unconference.” Her participation from afar gained so much attention that it was mentioned as an Unconference highlight during the main conference’s final keynote.
Besides having more presenters than most other companies, Schematic also had more company representation than most, with seven attendees (Brian, Ben, Val Vinder, Karolina Hidalgo, Pablo Viquez, David Mora and Larry Davidson). Each attendee did a terrific job of networking with other developers and thought leaders; special kudos go to Pablo for passing the difficult Zend Certification, which was offered as part
of the event.
It’s great to see the level of involvement and recognition Schematic has achieved in the global PHP community thanks to the efforts of each of these individuals.
